DJ SCOTTO BIO and BACKGROUND
SCOTTO needs little introduction, born in Washington, D.C. on June 21st 1969, then raised in suburban Baltimore,
Scotto started Dj'ing and throwing parties at age 17 when all his peers were picking up guitars.
Soon he started an all ages event at Six Flag's Power Plant Megaclub & a college night at Calvert St Cafe with legendary DJ Scott Henry,
He moved to NYC in 1988 and was engulfed in NYC nightlife, club kids, and all the new technology emerging.
Within a year he became a NYC nightlife stable, a creative pioneer and founding father of the USA EDM scene.
Shortly after his residency at The Red Zone club, Scotto toured with DEE-LITE as "Groove Is In The Heart" was number one
and while in London, became exposed to the legendary Hacienda and the blossoming acid house warehouse parties,
then settled into The Limelight club NYC in 1991 as Technical and Lighting Director with nightlife legend Arthur Weinstein.
In May 92, Scotto produced Manhattan's first Rave, at the famous Studio 54 space (called the Ritz then),
featuring the first USA appearance of ROZALLA, plus Dj Frankie Bones, a founding father of the USA techno scene and Storm Raves,
plus Dj Danny Tenaglia and MOBY live, and from this show, SCOTTO continued with MOBY thru 94 touring the world.
While Scotto was installing the light system for the Opening week at Webster Hall, he met DB during an Aids benefit, and In July 92,
Scotto moved his Rave the Ritz events to the Shelter club, and brought in a team of DJ's including Dante, Db, Soul Slinger
of Liquid Sky, Moby, Mr. Kleen, Dmitry of Deelite and many others to form NASA which stood for Nocturnal Audio & Sensory Awakening.
NASA was the 1990's version of Studio 54 and went on to co-produce North America's first two Rave tours featuring
performances by MOBY, along with PRODIGY, ORBITAL, APHEX TWIN and a little known producer named Richie Hawtin.
(NASA was portrayed in the cult film "KIDS" that helped NASA coatcheck girl CHLOE SEVINGY's acting career take off).
Since the early NASA days, Scotto has created and produced many legendary events like RAVESTOCK at WOODSTOCK 94,
and massive sold -out festivals like Stereotopia at Hammerstein Ballroom or the Dj concert for DROP Magazine called
"A Day At The Park" at Six Flags in NJ in 1997, or his annual NYC Halloween MASKARAVE since 1992.
His creative talents cross over from High Impact Psychedelic Lighting, LED Visuals, Sound Production and Artist development
for techno and dance music artists like Moby, the Prodigy, Dubtribe and countless international Dj's at legendary nightspots like
Limelight, Tunnel, Twilo, Danceteria, Marquee and Shelter; to working on films "KIDS', "PARTY MONSTER", NEW JACK CITY"
and music videos like LIL KIM & MOBB DEEP's classic "QUIET STORM" to JOE COCKER and many others.
Scotto spreads his artistic visual talents to his full color glossy fashion and music magazine called DROP (published 1993 thru 1997),
which is now in 2010 being developed into a TV show as well as DJ'ing many high profile gigs like for
the Formula One Grand Prix in Singapore in September 2009 along side Will I Am of the Black Eyed Peas and Peter Hook of New Order.
Scotto has incredible taste in track selection, carefully choosing the best sounds to dance to and lose yourself in the moment.
SCOTTO is currently producing a new DUBtronica live show concept for 2010, ready to tour in support of the music
and is running the old school EDM website SCOTTO.TV with tons of video, club & rave flyer archives and mp3 dj sets for download.
